Hermann von Helmholtz
* 1821 in Potsdam
+ 1894 in Berlin
German physician, physicist, and philosopher.
In physics, he is known for his theories on the conservation of
work in electrodynamics, chemical thermodynamics,
and on a mechanical foundation of thermodynamics.
The Kelvin–Helmholtz instability (after Lord
Kelvin and Hermann von Helmholtz) can occur
when there is velocity shear in a single continuous fluid,
or where there is a velocity difference across the interface
between two fluids.
