Sun, Moon & Earth

Sun, Moon & Earth Applet

This interactive applet displays the positions of the Sun and Moon on the horizon for any date, time and location, and on a world map with day and night regions. The times of rise and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle of sun and moon, the equation of time, and more data are computed. They can be written to a data window.

New Sun & Earth

Select your location from the menu list, enter the coordinates manually (press enter key), or simply click into the word map. The applet will adjust the time zone.

New Moon Observer

Java applet calculating local conditions for crescent moon sighting.

SunShadow

The interactive applet displays the shadow of an object (building, wall, tree) for any location, date and time.

Daylight

This Java applet displays a diagram with the times of sunrise, sunset, twilight and a horizon view showing the position of the sun.

The data for a month or a year are listed in a seperate window.

Sunshine

This applet is designed to indicate the hours of most intense sun light and UV radiation for any location and time.

Day & Night

This Java Applet shows the day and night regions on a world map, and computes the declination and Greenwich hour angle of the sun, the shadow of a vertical gnomon, the elevation and azimuth of the sun.

SunMoon Map

The map is showing the day and night regions as well as the subsolar and sublunar point.

Sun & Earth
Sun & Earth Applet

This interactive Java applets displays the position of the Sun on the horizon for any date, time and location, and on a world map with day and night regions. The times of rise and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle and the equation of time are computed.

Sun & Moon Polar

Sun and Moon position in polar coordinates for any location, date, and time.

Sun Polar

The current position of the sun in polar coordinates.

Azimuth & Elevation

The applet is creating diagrams of the elevation and the azimuth of the Sun for various latitudes and dates (exinoxes and solstices). A data widow is included.

Sun & Moon Horizon

This Java applet displays the azimuth of the Sun and the Moon at rise or set over the year.

Solar and Lunar Standstills
standstill

Sun Plotter

By this applet you get the (approximate) times of sunrise and sunset from a geometrical construction for any location and date.

Sun View

The Java applet displays the position of the Sun on the horizon for any date, time and location, the times of sunrise and sunset, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle of the sun and the equation of time.

Sun Applet

This simple applet displays the current position of the Sun on the horizon for different locations, the times of sunrise and sunset, the declination and Greenwich hour angle of the sun.

source code included

Twilight Clock

This times of sunrise, sunset, and twilight are computed and displayed.

Sun Eclipse
Sun Eclipse Applet

The applet visualises the total solar Eclipse of 1999 August 11 in Europe.

Day/Night Terminator

Use the scrollbars to observe the day/night terminator changing the date and the time.

Source code included.

Pursuing the Sun

From a point on the Earth, a person starts at sunrise, walking at a constant speed always in the direction of the Sun, and ending at sunset. What is the path ?

Terminator
Solar terminator
Lines of simultaneous sunrise/sunset, and lines of equal solar altitude.
